Training & Support

Turning Pointe Autism Foundation works to meet the need in our community for students and families on the journey with autism. Below, you can find a specific breakdown of our service offerings based on your role in the district and community.

Community Services

for first responders, community groups, employers, or learners from any setting

Autism 101 Training
Turning Pointe’s Autism 101 training is designed to educate attendees on what autism is and how it is diagnosed. In addition, trainers cover common areas of needs of those on the autism spectrum disorder and universal supports and evidence-based therapies available.
Behavior 101 Training
This training provides learners with an introduction to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), outlining a brief history of the field, describing the differences between reinforcement and punishment, identifies and covers the four functions on behavior, and connects them to the ABCs of behavior. Upon request, this training can be adapted to meet the needs of a specific setting.
Setting Specific Trainings Upon Request

This training package provides community members and organizations per-hour training sessions on a setting specific need. Areas may include but are not limited to; communication, autism in the workplace, crisis management, etc.

First Responder Training

This training package provides first responders a general overview of autism and key characteristics and supports that may help them communicate with and respond to individuals with autism during an emergency. Training components may be adapted to specific groups and needs upon request (e.g. missing persons, de-escalation, medical assistance, etc.

Trainings

Setting-Specific Training Upon Request
This training package provides educational teams per-hour training sessions on a setting specific needs requested by the school district. Areas may include but are not limited to; prompting, modeling, Discrete Trial Training (DTT), shaping, training, Behavior Skills Training (BST).
An Introduction to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
This training provides learners with an introduction to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), outlining a brief history of the field, describing the differences between reinforcement and punishment, identifies and covers the four functions on behavior, and connects them to the ABCs of behavior. This training is specific to ABA within the school setting, emphasizing identifying student specific needs.
Data Collection and Data-Driven Decision Making
This group training provides an overview of data collection and its importance related to behavior reduction, skill acquisition, and tracking IEP goals. Trainees are exposed to a wide variety of data tracking types and systems and are taught how to match their data collection procedures to the needs of their students. Additional time may be requested to collaborate with trainers in creating data collection systems in a workshop-style setting.
Functional Behavioral Assessments - Training
This training provides learners with an overview of functional behavioral assessments (FBA) within the school setting. The objectives of this training include, defining FBA, understanding the four functions of behavior, identifying and defining target behaviors, and understanding the difference between indirect and direct assessments. Attendees are provided opportunities to interact with different assessment types and examples of results.

Collaboration & Consultation

Initial Collaboration and Consultation of Student-Specific Needs
his initial collaboration and consultation include a 45-60 minute observation of a student and two 30-minute collaborative meetings with Turning Pointe’s Program Director – BCBA to outline the needs identified and options for future collaboration and services.
Functional Behavioral Assessments - Consultative Service
A formal evaluation used to systematically evaluate the function of targeted maladaptive behavior(s). The consultative service includes an initial observation, two collaborative meetings with the educational team, and an extensive file review. Following the initial meeting, a formal functional assessment is completed using indirect, descriptive, and/or experimental assessment procedures within the educational setting. Following the assessment, the school district is provided the findings of all completed assessments in a formal report.
IEP Review/Revision

This service provides per-hour collaborative sessions to an educational team to seek collaboration and guidance on any identified element of a student’sIndividualized Education Plan (IEP). Areas may include but are not limited to student goals, transition, behavior intervention plans, etc.

Skill-Based Behavior Assessments - Consultative Service

A formal evaluation used to systematically evaluate a variety of skills outlined within relevant behavioral assessments. These assessments may include; Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB MAPP), Essential For Living (EFL), Assessment of Basic Language and Learning – Revised (ABLLS-R), Assessment of Functional Living Skills (AFLS). Following the assessment, the school district is provided the findings of all completed assessments in a formal report.

Student Specific Consultation

This service provides per-hour collaborative/consultative sessions to an educational team to seek collaboration and guidance on any identified element of a student’s educational day. Specific consultative needs are requested by the school district or identified within an initial collaboration and consultation meeting (see above Initial Collaboration and Consultation of Student Specific Needs).
