Social Media

How do you feel about Social Media? I honestly don’t know how I feel about it. I mean there are some positives & some negatives like all things. My personal experience is both positive & negative. For instance, a pro is that you can communicate with others across all platforms, all around the world. That’s pretty neat! Another pro is that you can check up on people that you don’t normally talk to or see everyday. You can also see what others have done with their lives aka (posting pictures, statutes, etc). Social Media is also a good tool for job searching, with sites like Indeed, ZipRecruiter, CareerBuilder and so many more. All at your fingertips.

Some cons or negatives of Social Media are as follows: just because you have social media doesn’t mean that everybody has to see what you’re doing every minute of every day. It can be a little too much information. Occasionally, you come across inappropriate/disturbing images/pictures, statuses, what have you. More often than not now, I’ve come across people being really insensitive & putting mean/hurtful things on people’s posts. Or, the person is just being negative. Like putting down the person, telling them their idea is stupid, etc. More now than ever, people are condescending. As an example, some posts about how to use an object maybe (as seen on tv). Another person will write down the instructions, and then at the end will be like “it’s easy, I got it on the first try”. Whenever I see interactions like that, it infuriates me. Like, really, some people have a harder time & so what if they didn’t get it on the first try & had to ask for help. So what? It just means they’re human.

All in all, there’s some positive & negatives to having social media. I don’t know if I’ll ever FULLY leave social media, but I am starting to step back & maybe that will help me to remain positive.
