General FAQs
What donations do you accept? We accept just about any vehicle. From car donations, trucks, RV’s, motorcycles, vans, buses, trailers, jet skis, snowmobiles etc.

My car is not running. Can I still donate it?
Yes, we accept almost all car donations regardless of the condition it may be in.

Are there any expenses involved on my end? No, we appreciate the donation, and we’ll gladly pick it up with a tow truck free of charge.

What areas do you service? Chicagoland, Western Suburbs and Northwest Indiana.

Do I have to be home when you pick up my vehicle? Nope! Please just leave the keys and title in the glove compartment and remove all personal belongings.

Can I donate my car if I don’t have the title? We can most likely pick up the vehicle if it doesn’t have a title, but it will need to be free of any Liens and we’ll need the registered owner to sign some paperwork for us. Finding the title will increase the value and possible tax deduction.

What will happen to my vehicle after I donate it? We will assess your car to decide how to sell it and determine how much we can make from it. Then, the proceeds of the vehicle’s sale will benefit the nonprofit school, Turning Pointe Autism Foundation, and you’ll receive a tax-deductible receipt in the amount the vehicle is sold for.

Are there any expenses involved on my end? No, we appreciate the donation, and we’ll gladly pick it up with a tow truck free of charge.

Can I donate an abandoned car? We are unable to accept these donations. You must be the legal owner of the vehicle to donate it.

Can I donate a vehicle whose owner passed away?
We are only able to accept this donation if you have a copy of the death certificate and documentation of proof that you are the official inheritor of the deceased’s belongings.

Why donate a vehicle to charity? You are benefiting a charity that aims to provide ideal learning environments for individuals with autism spectrum disorder, you receive a maximum tax deduction, and the donation process is professional, quick, and simple.

What should I do with my license plates after I donate my vehicle? You can return the license plates to the DMV. In the state of Illinois, you must also turn in a release of liability to the DMV. This form is called a Report of Sale. On these forms, you should fill in our name and address:

What do I need to know about signing my title?
When signing your title, please make certain that you print and sign your name as the “seller” exactly the way it appears on the face of the title.

Who will pick up my vehicle?
Turning Pointe Autism Foundation uses a logistics software company, Audoserv, who has a network of professionally, licensed, bonded and insured towing agencies that we trust to pick up these donations. You will be contacted to arrange a time that works best for you when it comes time to pick up your vehicle.

Will I receive anything at the time of pickup?
You will receive a temporary receipt from our towing vendor that states your car’s information and our best point of contact.

Can you pick up my vehicle if it’s not at my house?
Of course! We can pick up your donation from anywhere in our coverage area, whether it’s mechanic or roadside.

How quickly can you pick up my vehicle? We can usually have your vehicle picked up as quickly as necessary. Our towing vendor will be in touch to schedule a pickup within 24 hours after you contact us. The pickup time is usually scheduled a day or two after that, but we do our best to accommodate if you need your vehicle to be picked up sooner.

Tax Deduction FAQs
How much will I receive as a tax deduction for my vehicle? The IRS allows you to claim a tax deduction of the value of your vehicle up to $500. It is up to the donor to determine the fair market value. The amount we sell your vehicle for, if the sale price exceeds $500.

Turning Pointe Autism Foundation is a classified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. You can check with your tax advisor or accountant to determine the amount of your benefit. The deduction is only if the donor itemizes his/her deductions.

How do you determine how much to sell my vehicle for? Our experienced team evaluates each vehicle and figures out the best selling price for it. We take into account many factors, such as year, make/model, mileage and local market conditions. It is in our mutual best interest to sell your vehicle for the most we can.

When will I receive my tax receipt? Your tax-deductible receipt should arrive in the mail within 3-6 weeks of donating. You’ll also receive a temporary receipt at the time of pickup.
